One of the benefits of being such a tight-knit community is that a teacher who has a connection with each individual graduate gives remarks about them at graduation. The ceremony was thus quite poignant and meaningful as it emphasized the special characteristics of each senior and how they have contributed to our school community. A highlight of the ceremony was also the celebration of history teacher Jos茅 S谩nchez upon the completion of his 20th year working at 海角视频. Alumni, past co-workers, and current students alike sent in videos to surprise Jos茅 in an emotional video that moved the whole room. We were also treated to a performance by 海角视频's Rock Band who uplifted the ceremony and honored the heart and soul Jos茅 has always poured into the Band.

The first component of the project is the Senior Readiness Portfolio, a website students created to reflect on their growth throughout their time at 海角视频. Through these portfolios, students explored their strengths and challenges, the resources and strategies they鈥檝e gained, and their plans for the future. They also reflected on their growth in each area of the 海角视频 STACC鈩� (Support, Thought, Adaptability, Communication, and Connection) and considered how they will carry these skills forward beyond high school. Portfolios included examples of student work from across their high school experience alongside thoughtful written reflections.

Students have also been working on their Passion Projects, long-term projects that they designed and carried out with the support of a faculty mentor. This year鈥檚 projects reflect an impressive range of creativity and individuality, including writing and performing original songs, filming mini-documentaries, curating and performing vocal concerts, writing and illustrating children鈥檚 books, designing houses, creating nail art collections, and much more.

One example of a student Passion Project is a Thrift Swap, which took place last Friday after school. Earlier this year, one senior conducted research on the problem of gentrification and fast fashion and how these factors impact people who rely on affordable clothing from thrift stores. To take action, she decided to organize a thrift swap to educate her fellow students about this issue and to provide an alternative venue for thrift-shopping open to all and with no exchange of money. Throughout the year, this senior made posters and gave announcements during community meetings to spread the word about her project, and many students and faculty donated clothing. She then organized and documented the significant number of donations she received and publicized the thrift swap event. On the day of the event, many students and faculty participated in the gym, where she had set up her thrift swap store. Afterwards, she donated the remaining clothes to a nonprofit she had researched in advance. This senior did a wonderful job of getting the community involved in her passion and organizing a meaningful event!

Another example of a student Passion Project was a CPR Workshop, which took place last Wednesday. A certified EMT, one senior is passionate about teaching CPR and first aid to others. She conducted research and found a program from FDNY in which trainers come to schools to teach students CPR, and she worked with the school administration to get approval, organize the event, and to apply for the program. This student recruited interest from other students, made posters, and created a sign-up sheet for students to join the event. She also created an informative handout to give to students after the presentation to reinforce their learning. On the day of the event, more than 25 students packed into the lobby for the workshop! The FDNY trainers were engaging and answered great questions from the students, and all students present had the opportunity to practice CPR on dummies. This senior did amazing work organizing this event and ensuring that many 海角视频 students now know how to save a life!

It has been inspiring to see students turn their passions into meaningful action while building the skills and confidence that will support them beyond high school.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, participated in the Paddle Raise, and bid in the Silent Auction. Your generosity and enthusiasm helped make the evening both meaningful and impactful. Beyond the fundraising success, the night was a powerful reminder of the strength of our community and the collective commitment to supporting our students and school.

We would like to acknowledge the parent speakers who opened their hearts to share their family鈥檚 story with the audience. Their honesty, vulnerability, and reflections on the 海角视频 experience served as a moving reminder of the profound impact that our community has on students and families alike.

The energy in the room reflected what makes 海角视频 so special: a community that shows up for one another with compassion, dedication, and heart. Thank you for helping us celebrate that spirit and for playing such an important role in advancing 海角视频鈥檚 mission.

This student-curated exhibition, led by Studio Art teacher Kelsey H., showcases students' favorite pieces created throughout the school year. Students transformed Room 20 and the lobby into a vibrant gallery space, thoughtfully curating and arranging artwork to create a dynamic and engaging experience for visitors.

The celebration continued on Friday with Art Day, a school-wide event honoring the arts. Students visited the gallery and participated in a variety of hands-on workshops, including Lego building, bedazzling, short film, improv, and more. The day offered a fun and interactive opportunity for students to explore their creativity and celebrate the artistic talents within the 海角视频 community.

Bravo to our students for embracing the journey, supporting each other, and bringing Edward鈥檚 mysterious adventure to life with heart and determination. Your hard work truly shined on stage and emphasized the impact of theatre on the community. Thank you to our incredible student performers and brilliant performing arts teacher Charlotte for treating our community to such a phenomenal performance.

Rock Band is one of 海角视频's most iconic institutions, and the band has existed since the 1970's. Legendary history teacher Jose has mentored the Rock Band for the past 15 years, and it's actually a class students can enroll in. The Rock Band rehearses during 5th period, and trial songs to perform for the community. This quarter, the band played Alanis Morrisette鈥檚, You Oughta Know, Bruno Mars', Runaway Baby, Red Hot Chilli Peppers', Aeroplane, Otis Redding鈥檚, (Sittin鈥� On) The Dock of the Bay, and Ray Parker Jr鈥檚 seasonally appropriate Ghostbusters.

A huge congratulations to our student rockers for their unforgettable performance, and to Jose for his guidance and support in helping these young artists shine on stage!

On Friday, History teacher Bajia took Global 1 Students to Medieval Times, a dinner theater reenactment of traditional tournament games including jousting and sword-fighting for students to authentically discover aspects of medieval life. Students were engaged with story lines specifically crafted to interweave historical elements of medieval life such as the code of chivalry and the various social structures that defined the period.

The trip supplemented the students' study of Europe during the Middle Ages. According to Bajia, "the goal of this experience was to challenge students to think critically and use their creativity and knowledge of the era to draw conclusions about this unique time period, and make connections to the present. Students were very animated and engaged throughout this experience, cheering on their knight with passion and enthusiasm."

The group also had the surprise opportunity to meet the infamous Armando Diaz, who is one of the founders of the theater. Diaz inspired a form of improv the students will be studying in the third and fourth quarter. Overall this was a great evening of performance that allowed students to step outside of their comfort zone, work together, and perform original work for a live audience.

We love how field trips enhance what students learn in the classroom. Stay tuned for more about the fantastic opportunities our students have to broaden their horizons outside of the classroom.

In addition to the conference鈥檚 important focus, its origin is also an exciting one. Chris previously taught the conference鈥檚 founder, Nichelle Cook, as a graduate student in his work at As part of Chris鈥檚 course, there were many weeks of discussion about the problems and potential of gifted education, as well as complex learning needs related to such things as anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Through it all, the conference idea was encouraged and evolved. Now, Chris was thrilled to see it launch.

In his session at the conference, Chris shared school-based strategies for supporting complex learners and building support with families and across stakeholders in education, clinical services, and community partners. Together, he and Dan advanced this thinking across conference workshops.  It鈥檚 the kind of cross-disciplinary work that 海角视频 is known for and that the conference was designed to elevate.
